
Located in Central Province, Nuwara Eliya is one of the must-visit locations in Sri Lanka. The city is surrounded by green hills and also carries the name 'Little England'. The city is located 1868m above sea level. The best way to get there is by car or taxi. Some trains do depart from Colombo and Polgahawela as well. But trains do not go all the way to Nuwara Eliya. You will need to go to the nearest city and grab a tuk-tuk or a taxi to get to the city.
Whether you travel by train or car, the road to Nuwara Eliya is one for the camera. Waterfalls, tea plantations, and misty mountains enrich the beauty of nature. Most of the buildings still hold the old English architecture and gardens. Most visitors stay one night in Nuwara Eliya to visit World's End(Horton Plains National Park) early morning. Afterward, from Nuwara Eliya then they take the famous train ride to Ella. The train needs to be booked in advance because of the high demand.
Temperature is around 12°C to 14°C throughout the year. At night it can drop down to below this. Best time to travel January to April. Although days are much cooler than in the rest of the country, you will do well with less rain. Plus aside from the rain, you will see the full beauty of all the waterfalls and lush green tea plants covering overlooking mountains.
There are accommodations for all budgets. Some prefer old tea estate bungalows. Some of the best locations are The Grand Hotel, St Andrews, Araliya Green City, Kent Cottage, Calamander Lake Gregory.
